Someone in Iowa City is underrated, says I.

Big Games This Week:

  • 6 Texas at 18 Oklahoma State
  • 10 Southern California at 9 Oregon

There are seven undefeated teams left (the top seven in this week's rankings), and the only one with what appears to be a tough game this week is Florida, who plays Georgia in Jacksonville. Florida won't gain much from beating the Bulldogs, though, because Georgia will have a .500 record for the season, assuming the Gators win.

Iowa and Florida are neck-and-neck for the #1 spot right now. Virginia Tech's game against North Carolina is one on which to keep an eye since Alabama beat the Hokies in September. A Virginia Tech win makes it a tight three-team race for the #1 spot next week.

If today were BCS Selection Sunday and my standings were all that were used, here would be my projected BCS selection process:

  1. Automatic bids: Iowa (BCS Championship Game), Florida (BCS Championship Game), Texas Christian, Alabama, Texas (Fiesta Bowl), Cincinnati, Georgia Tech (Orange Bowl), Oregon (Rose Bowl).
  2. At-large pool: Boise State, Southern California, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech.
  3. Rose Bowl selects first after losing #1 Iowa to the BCS Championship Game. They choose Penn State.
  4. Sugar Bowl selects second after losing #2 Florida to the BCS Championship Game. They select Alabama.
  5. Orange Bowl picks first in final rotation. They pick Southern California.
  6. Fiesta Bowl picks next. Having to choose between automatic bids Texas Christian and Cincinnati, they choose Texas Christian.
  7. Sugar Bowl is assigned Cincinnati.

Hypothetical BCS Matchups:

  • Rose Bowl: Oregon vs. Penn State
  • Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs. Texas Christian
  • Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Cincinnati
  • Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Southern California
  • BCS Championship Game: Iowa vs. Florida

The Hawkeyes came out of Saturday's barnburner in East Lansing a winner, and they're tops this week.
