Florida #1 Yet Again

  1. The Gators have the toughest schedule among the unbeatens. That's why they're this week's #1. Don't expect that to change as long as the Gators keep winning.

    Notes:

    • #3 Boise State has both the weakest schedule among the unbeaten teams and the largest quality win (Oregon) in the country. Without my quality win component, the Broncos would be #7.
    • There are currently only six quality wins (ranked in value of win):
      • Boise State > Oregon
      • Miami (Florida) > Georgia Tech
      • Florida > Louisiana State
      • Iowa > Penn State
      • North Carolina State > Pittsburgh
      • Texas-El Paso > Houston
      There likely will be more than ten by the end of the season.
    • Big games this week:
      • 10 Louisiana State at 5 Alabama
      • 18 Ohio State at 11 Penn State

    If today were BCS Selection Sunday, and only this system were used:

    • Automatic Bids: Georgia Tech (Orange Bowl), Cincinnati, Iowa (BCS Championship Game), Texas (Fiesta Bowl), Oregon (Rose Bowl), Florida (BCS Championship Game), Boise State.
    • At-large pool: Alabama, Texas Christian, Penn State, Miami (Florida), Pittsburgh, Houston.

    Selection process:

    • Sugar Bowl selects first after losing Florida. They select Alabama.
    • Rose Bowl selects second after losing Iowa. They select Penn State.
    • Orange Bowl selects first in final rotation. They select Pittsburgh.
    • Fiesta Bowl, having to choose between automatic bids Boise State and Cincinnati, selects Boise State.
    • Sugar Bowl is assigned Cincinnati.

    • Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs. Boise State
    • Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Cincinnati
